Location:
This cattle and sheep farm is located near Grahamstown and falls under the Makana Municipality. The area is one of the most diverse ecological regions in South Africa, with a variety of biomes that provide unspoilt and spectacular scenery. Thousands of hectares are devoted to nature and game conservation, bringing with them the return of great herds of wildlife to the places where they once roamed freely. Description:
The farm, which high carrying capacity makes ideal for cattle and sheep farming, is fully watered and fenced. The property currently has 15 camps, all with drinking troughs and 2 working kraals, a storage shed, shearing shed, a small feedlot, as well as a small stock dipping tank. The estimated carrying capacity is between 1000 and 1300 SSU. At present, the livestock includes:
- 40 cows with calves;
- 630 ewes;
- 250 lambs;
- 20 rams; and
- 20 goats.
The entire property, apart from a small portion of roughly 1,5km, is newly fenced. Cost of repairs for the remaining fencing will be shared with the local municipality.
In addition to the springs in the kloof area, this property has 2 permanent dams as well as 3 smaller dams that dry up during dry seasons.
A borehole and windmill pumps water from a reservoir to 2x 5000 liter tanks, from where the water gravitates to the 15 camps.
Two additional 5000 liter water tanks at the working kraals feed the drinking troughs on the other side of the farm.
A second borehole with water is currently cased and not in use.
Infrastructure includes two brick staff houses, as well as 2 informal outbuildings, currently used as staff accommodation. The property does not have a main homestead or Eskom electricity.
Current rates are approximately R350 per year.
