Location: This game and fruit farm lies in the Klein Karoo, just 9 km from the town of Uniondale. The Baviaanskllof Mega Reserve, which is a World Heritage Site, is nearby.
Description: This farm has 8 title deeds.
The farm has a magnificent setting, surrounded by majestic mountains. It has an abundance of of wild game and bird life, as well as indigenous fynbos (flora).
Fruit orchards: 10 ha apples and pears (8 years old) under micro-drip irrigation, as follows: Royal Gala- 2,7 ha Golden Delicious- 2 ha Early Granny Smith- 2,7 ha Early BC pears- 1 ha Rosmarie pears- 1,5 ha Forel pears (4 years old)- 2 ha Early BC pears (3 years old)- 2 ha
Another 40 ha, with plenty of water and which is presently under lucerne, has the potential to be planted with more decidious fruit orchards. The irrigation system is fully computerized.
This is the only farm in the Karoo which produces decidious fruit - the fruit is ready for market 2 weeks ahead of the Langkloof, and therefore a better price is obtained locally and exporting is not necessary.
Warehouse: The warehouse measures 750 sqm, and was built in 2005. It has a 2- way epping handling system that grades the fruit at the same time. There are 90 picking crates.
Irrigation: 45 ha of lucerne are divided into 5 camps. 3 camps consisting of 8 ha are irrigated by Zimatic Pivet. The balance is irrigated by sprinklers and drag lines. A further 26 ha of established lucerne is irrigable.
Vegetation: Veld- 550 ha of dry lands consisting of rooigras. The carrying capacity is 1 unit to 1 ha, and if planted it is 4 units to1 ha. The land is divided into 5 camps with ample water for stock. Savannah-1200 ha of grassland with carrying capacity of 6 units to 1 ha. Mountain- 1000 ha, ideal for eco-tourism and 4x4 routes, but also suitable for carrying 800 dry ewes for 5 months.
Water: The farm has one of the best water supplies in the district. There are 2 dams which lie above the irrigation land, and 1 dam below the irrigation land. There 4 fountains, 3 boreholes and 3 dams for the livestock.
Power: Supplied by Eskom
Roads: Gravel roads in good condition
Staff: 2 vacant staff houses- farm labourers are transported from Uniondale on a daily basis.
Homestead: The farm is situated at the end of a valley, and the farm house is very private and secure, surrounded by beautiful mountains. The beautifully restored house (280 sqm) has yellow wood ceilings, tiles and under floor heating. It consists of 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, lounge, dining room/kitchen, study and laundry. It is surrounded by a lovely garden, and there is cell phone reception.
