The Opportunity
- Invest in one of the best game areas in Southern Africa - the Smaldeel region of the Eastern Cape province, approximately 180km from the coastal city of Port Elizabeth,
- Secure the rights to hunt on the property on a yearly basis (with up to 8 hunters and two PHs in your group)
- The US$ 420 000 investment will buy a hunting concession over the property worth approximately US$ 520 000 (due to discounted game prices)
- Game shot by the concession investor and his guests will be deducted from the original investment. The game must be shot over a period of 5 to 8 years.
- The investment will also secure the availability of upmarket (4-Star) accommodation and service on the property throughout hunting stays.
- A detailed concession agreement will be drafted after an investor signs a letter of intent to purchase this concession.
The Farm
The farm is considered to be one of the finest in the choice Smaldeel region, with top quality savannah grassland, valley bushveld and magnificent mountain and plains scenery. The area has an exceptionally rich variety of flora. The farm has a high carrying capactiy and is suitable for a wide variety of game species. Currently a working cattle farm, game on the property is worth approximately US$ 150 000. The property was recently valued at US$ 2 600 000.
Game Purchases, Fencing and Lodge
The current owners will use the concession income to buy more game species, to erect a game fence around the property, and to upgrade the homestead to a four star lodge.
Accommodation and Day Fee Package
The property owner will offer a four-star accommodation facility (to be rated by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa) to the concession investor and his guests for which the investor or his guests will be responsible to pay a market related day fee. In return for the day fee paid the investors will enjoy:
- Four star accommodation;
- Three meals a day;
- Laundry service;
- Room service;
- Access to hunting vehicles;
- A recovery team for the game shot;
- A professional hunter; as well as
- A shuttle service from Port Elizabeth to the farm and back.
This service will be included in the day fee payable.
Hunting
Hunting of the concession will need to take place from the 1st of May each year until the 30th of July of each year. The yearly concession will consist of the following animals (note that this is an estimate and will be established on a yearly basis).
Return On Investement and Other Key Benefits
The prospective investor will enjoy the benefit of the game at a discounted price and by so doing will enjoy a return of investment of approximately 10 % per annum (that is if the prospective investor shoots the package within the 5 year period.) The rebate given to the prospective investor will be a rebate on the average PA price for game as established by the Professional Hunters Association of South Africa and/or agreed by the parties.
Another major benefit of this investment opportunity and hunting concession is that the prospective investor does not need to buy a farming property or game farm in South Africa and therefore does not need to manage and run the facility and/or manage and run the game aspects of the farm.
Due to the structuring of the transaction, the prospective investor will also be able to structure the most beneficial tax deal by utilising the full investment as a tax deduction for client / business entertainment.
