Location: This scenic valley farm is located 10 km off the N10 to Cradock and Johannesburg. It is adjacent to the famous Addo Elephant National Park. The nearest country village is Paterson, and the farm is just a 1 hour drive from the coastal city of Port Elizabeth.
This is a completely malaria-free area.
Description: This beautiful farm is 530 ha in extent, and consists of vegetation indigenous to the area.
Vegetation and land: The valley is undulating, and is covered in bushveld and grassland. There are 5 biomes, and the farm offers a mosaic of habitats particular to the area- pristine valley bushveld, montane forest, acacia scrub and aloe rich mountain sides. Trees include wild olive and yellowwood.
The valley floors are covered with dry land pastures which enhance the beauty of the farm. There is no alien or exotic vegetation.
Water: There are 5 boreholes, 3 dams and a perennial river. Boreholes: 1) South side behind house, windmill with 700 l/h water (slightly brak). Eskom power at 2 positions, but no pump 2) South side behind house- capped borehole, not used but has water 3) South side, on western Zuurberg. Good sweet water with submersible pump, never runs dry- 3200l/h-services house with drinking water, fills underground reservoir, concrete reservoir, reservoir near 2nd house and reservoir across the road. 4) North side, windmill good, but pipes need slight fixing, brackish- 700l/h 5)North-western boundary- in valley near Montaine forest- shallow borehole (3m deep)- very good sweet water- 3000 l/h
Fencing: All the internal fences have been removed allowing free movement of numerous indigenous game species. A fence is shared with the Addo Elephant Park, and there is huge potential to become part of a conservancy of 10 000-15 000 ha.
Homesteads: The property has 2 homesteads. The one is in good condition, built of modern facebrick and consisting of 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, lounge/dining room and a double garage.
The other house is an old colonial style homestead dating back to the early 1900's. It needs attention, but can be renovated as extra accommodation or as a lodge.
There is also an old original settler's cottage of historical interest, as well as other outbuildings such as an old dairy and store rooms.
